Coaching for Social Impact – Give more than you get!
Have you ever felt that volunteering is selfish, given the joy you receive from it? Research shows there are tangible, psychological benefits when you give back to your community. Yvonne Toma, long-term volunteer coach for Up With Women, will discuss the impact volunteering has had on her life over the past 14 years. She will also talk about how coaching has impacted the 1,500+ clients served through Up With Women and how their successes benefit society overall. She’ll also give a shout-out on behalf of Up With Women, looking for other coaches to add to our roster, so be prepared!

Helping Others Forge Their Lives: Lessons from Knife Making and Life Coaching
I have been a life coach for over a decade, and in 2021, I learned the craft of forging and finishing knives. After some time, I started teaching knife making classes. In this session, I want to share what I've learned from both teaching and witnessing others as they forge their own knives. What is true in the forge, is true in life coaching, and has profound connections to how individuals can forge and shape their lives.
Coaching Across the Divide: Holding Space in a Polarized World
The coaching relationship can be strained by differences in values, beliefs, or emotional responses. The recent rise in political tension underscores the need for strategies that help us anticipate and respond to these moments when they arise. Tension is a constant reality in team and organizational coaching, where differing viewpoints, strong personalities, and internal politics are the norm—amplified by domain-specific biases and preferences. Drawing on the speaker’s 20+ years of experience in these settings, this session surfaces insights that translate across all coaching contexts. Key Insights – Recognizing difference as a normal part of coaching – Seeing tension as insight, not threat – Setting clear boundaries and checking in to stay aligned – Translating group dynamics to 1-on-1 coaching – Treating compatibility as dynamic and evolving
Leader-Pairs Coaching: Specialized Coaching Skills for Interaction Dynamics
The coaching field has benefited from the integration of theories and therapies from the clinical psychology world as it applies to individual coaching (eg. IFS, CBT, trauma theory, positive psychology, motivational interviewing) but has integrated from the couples therapy world to a much lesser degree. Yet coaches are routinely asked to provide guidance for clients about interactions, or to mediate interpersonal challenges at work where knowledge of these “couples” tools would be indispensable: dealing with difficult reports, colleagues, clients or cross-functional partners, managing defensiveness, problematic communication, poor interactional behavior by those who are essential to the business, etc. When coaches approach these cases with interactional tools, they are far more able to lead clients to the mindset changes, self-reflection and owning of their contributions that make impactful change to the circular dynamics that lock up the conflict.
